Day 2: WITCHES

Saturday, October 9, 2010

Today we do not wake up so much and at 8.30 we go down to the breakfast room of the Loreto Hotel where we have stayed in Bruges and after having a good binge we start with all the things that we have programmed in Witches.
Today we want to make the northern part of the city, following an itinerary that we have in the guide and that we have more or less prepared.
The walk indicated by the guide through Bruges puts it about 90 minutes, but we extend it to 3 hours!
A good option to not miss anything in the city is to book a guided tour in Spanish or this free tour of the old town Free!
We start watching the Palace of the Dukes of Burgundy, a pleasant view, hidden in the middle of some streets, we continue along the Botherhuis alley, which passes under the arch of the old Butter house.

We continue to the Hotel Lucca, which occupies the place of the chamber of commerce of the Italian city.

Witches

All this we are doing almost alone, except for some tourist who crossed the road. It shows that this part of the city is not as visited and yet it has spectacular corners!
We continue along cobbled streets that take us to the picturesque section of one of the canals.

We walk until we meet the Folklore Museum, this area is very pleasant to walk and is full of streets worthy of photography and above all admire.
A little later we meet Jersuzalemkerk, its design reminds of pilgrimage sites of the Holy Land.
Here we see the first shell on the ground, which reminds us that the Camino de Santiago passes through here too.
In this area is the Lace Center, where we miss a while ... forgetting for a moment to follow the itinerary.

Witches

We cross the canal through the Strooibrug and find Sint Walburgakerk, a spectacular baroque church.
Then we continue to Eyckplein Square, with a statue dedicated to the artist.
We continue to the Oud Tolhuis, the old customs and then to the Poorterslodge.
From time to time we stop at the small squares, corners and canals, to rest and enjoy the atmosphere and the views of Bruges.

Canals of Bruges

We continue to Huis te Beuze, where transactions were made in the thirteenth century.
We arrive at the municipal theater, then continue until we get to see the Huis Bouchotte, the compass of the facade that used to check the conditions of the winds.
This itinerary can be done in less time than we have been and we highly recommend it, since it is spectacular and moves away a little from the tourism in the center.
Here we are again in the Markt Square in Bruges and seeing that it is already 11 o'clock in the morning, we go straight to the Church of the Holy Blood.

Markt Square in Bruges

There we are a good time, admiring the inner beauty. Really spectacular this church.
It's 12 and some in the morning and Roger wants to get on Belfort, the bell tower in Markt Square.

I take the opportunity to sit on a terrace and write the postcards, but at the moment it appears, saying that the queue is impressive and that it will be waiting mid-morning, so it joins me and we rest on the terrace for a while ...
Before eating, we decide that we will do the shopping: chocolates, occasional details for us and family and friends ... and with the bags full, we go to the hotel to download.

Witches

It's 2 in the afternoon and it starts to show that our stomach needs something, so we go to the square behind the hotel to eat a menu on one of the terraces of Bruges.
Note: the menus here are not like in Spain, most start at 18 euros!
Of course, they are quite complete ...
We left the restaurant at 4 in the afternoon, it is expensive, but we have had the "luck" that they have been quite slow ... although this has helped us to rest, before returning to the hotel to rest for a little while, before returning to get going to continue discovering Bruges!
It's 5 in the afternoon and we decided it's time to go catch the boat that takes us through the canals.
We approach a dock that we have next to the hotel and take a couple of tickets, they discount us 1 euro and something to each one for a card they have given us at the hotel.
It takes a little while to leave and we take the opportunity to see the channels with lower views to which we are accustomed.

Canals of Bruges

The tour is half an hour, with explanations in several languages and passes quite quickly.
We have really seen the same thing that we had already seen walking, but the perspective is different and I have to admit, that despite being a "tourist", I would do it again!
After this, we go again to Minnewater, since yesterday, the first day we spent in Bruges, we left an area to see and want to finish walking in the park.

Minnewater of Bruges

We take many photos again, there is a pretty good light and you have to take advantage of it!

Canals of Bruges

Today is our last night here and we want to take pictures at night of Markt, the channels ...
So we are looking for a restaurant, but the truth is that today we have finished eating at 4 in the afternoon, we have chopped some chocolate ... so we are not very hungry.
When we get to Markt, he is singing a choir and we take the opportunity to record a bit.
We decided that it is best to eat some "frites" sitting in the square.
And there we go, we sit in our bank, with the frites and a coke and wait for nightfall.
At 8 in the afternoon we set off to do the pictures of witches at night. First it is Markt, then the Church of the Holy Blood and then we go straight to follow the different channels.

Night witches

At this time it is the most relaxing thing we can do !!
Incredible there is no one down the street, only the “photographers” give, with their tripods, looking for the perfect light and the perfect moment to capture it in their cameras.

Night witches

Despite the cold weather, we really enjoyed this moment.

Night witches

About 9 we go to our hotel in Bruges, the Loreto Hotel that tomorrow we have to go to Brussels!
Every day we look at the issue of the strike ... and at the moment our flight does not leave the cancellation list ...
