MT EDEN: WALKING A VOLCANO

Three weeks in Auckland, three weeks in which we don't deign to climb Mt. Eden, the best place (gratuitous) to enjoy some magnificent views of the city. It had to be on a sporadic visit, 4 months after arriving in Auckland, which we did with the excuse of getting the visa for the stopover we will do in Australia (if you want more info click here) but we actually did because we missed the Kebabs of the “Kebabs on Queen” of 5 dollars. On that visit we forced ourselves to climb up to Mount Eden ... and there we went, on a sunny and windy day, to eat some muffins on the volcano!

Mount Eden, as we have said, is neither more nor less than a volcano (Hopefully, it will be turned off forever)… it is actually the highest volcano of the more than 50 in this area, with 196 meters high, from where you get spectacular 360 views Auckland grades, its harbor and all its surroundings. Up here you realize how scattered this city is! It is the fourth largest in extension and only has less than 1.5 million inhabitants! In the center a huge crater 50 meters deep gives it its artistic touch.

The truth is that the site is spectacular! We enjoy it very much, especially when we take out our apple and cinnamon muffins, bought in the CountDown and that, strangely, have a certain resemblance to the mountain ... no? look look…

USEFUL INFO

Where is:It is located about 5 km from downtown Auckland.

How much:It's free

Schedule:From 07:00 to 23:00

How to get:We did it in our car. We believe that it is best to go south on HW1 and when you see the mountain on your right take the detour, which indicates, among other things, the airport. Then it goes under the HW1 and further on there is an indication towards the “MT Eden” on the right. The entire urbanization of expensive houses and shops of Mt Eden is reached ... from there you will have to take the road that goes up to the Summit ... it is not difficult. There are other paths, but that is what we follow. Parking is free.

If you want to get from Auckland by public transport, there are buses They get here. From the entrance you can take the buses: 258, 267 or 277 that for 2 NZ $ take you to near the mountain. The climb will have to do a little leg ... You can also come walking from the center, yes, it is a good kick ... but if you feel like it, why not? We know someone who did it ... 😉
