Looking for ideas from what to see and what to do in Tuscany? In this article we tell you the best 20 ... But first, let us tell you something ...

Cities full of art, a cuisine as simple as tasty, infinite fields dotted with cypresses that point to the sky and beauty from all corners. How could it be otherwise, we are talking about The Toscana, one of the most charming regions of one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Leonardo da Vinci and Dante chose well where to be born.

These are for us the best 20 things to see and do in Tuscany.

1. A good starting point could be Florence. Get ready, because at every step you will suffer from Stendhal syndrome, its attractions are endless! So you don't miss any (or almost none), we leave you with a 1 or 2 day itinerary in Florence.

2. And to fill the stomach with something typical and economical, trya schiacciata in the Antico Vinaio, one of the most recommended places to eat in Florence. It costs € 5 and is deadly. Although there are a few more places to eat in Florence, here we give you our favorites.

3. Visit the leaning Tower most famous in the world: that of Pisa. Even if you don't just take the typical photo, in Pisa there are some interesting visits, here is a walking tour of Pisa.

4. Know medieval Manhattan, that's how it is known San Gimignano, thanks to its characteristic 14 stone towers. Here we tell you our experience in this small village in the Tuscan countryside.

5. And here try one of the best ice cream in all of Italy, in the Dondoli ice cream shop. We never give up the pistachio flavor.

Do not forget to take a very “original” photo in Pisa 😉

6. Another of the outstanding cities of Tuscany is Siena, and its famous Piazza del Campo. But do not miss the Piazza del Duomo, palaces such as Salimbeni or Chigi Saracini and especially streets! This was our passage through Siena.

But the real attraction of Tuscany is its villages. So we recommend a lot, a lot, a lot, thatrent a car and do a roadtrip of several days, to know its different regions.

If you prefer not to drive, you can take a tour from Florence. Here we leave some.

7. You can start by thoroughly exploring the region of Chianti (pronounced "quianti"), where a very famous wine is produced. One of the towns that conquered us (and where we hardly found tourists) was Montefioralle. It is between Florence and San Gimignano, point this place to make a stop!

8. Colle di Val d'Elsa, not too far from San Gimignano, stands out for its imposing door between the walls. It is a nice little town with an authentic atmosphere, you know, where you can feel the daily life of its neighbors.

9. The south roadtrip crosses the region of Val d'Orcia, one of the most beautiful and representative areas of Tuscany. Here you have to visit yes or if these villages: Montepulciano, where some scenes of "Twilight" were recorded,Bagno Vignoni, a small medieval town formerly famous for its hot springs, andCastiglione d'Orcia, with its imposing Rocca di Tentennano.

10. And if we talk about hot springs, Tuscany offers a few points where you can take a therapeutic and free bath. What did you not know? One of them is the Terme Libere di San Filippo. The best thing here is to take a dip in the waterfall of the Balena Blanca, a white rock surrounded by very curious pools.

11. Entering the region of the Maremmavisit Sorano, probably our favorite town in all of Tuscany. Its quiet atmosphere, its narrow streets that seem to leave the Middle Ages, its doors and its natural environment make it the perfect place! And if you can stay at the Hotel della Fortezza, the day is round.

12. But the surprises don't end here. Remains of Etruscan settlements are within walking distance of the center of Sorano. Neither more nor less than Le Vie Cave. They were roads carved in rock that connected the towns and the necropolis. We recommend you go up toParco di San Rocco, a promontory that rises in front of Sorano and from where there are magnificent views. Along the way you will see some of these Fri.

13. The story of Sorano has been linked to its neighbor and more powerful Pitigliano, known as Little Jerusalem. Why this nickname? A great Jewish community was established here for centuries. In fact, in the center, you can still visit the ghetto and the synagogue. The town is a real wonder.

14. Within walking distance, in Sovana, there is a very interesting Etruscan necropolis (€ 5). It is certainly an original plan to do in Tuscany.

15. Other Tuscan hot springs, perhaps the most famous, are the Terme de Saturnia. Warm and blue waters in pools next to an old mill, where you can relax, and even where you can camp. Of course, be careful not to lose your car keys, as happened to our friend Txema. You have already been able to verify that Tuscany comes with a swimsuit, right?

Tuscany is endless beautiful landscapes and charming villages

16. On the way to Pisa isVolterra , a small town on a hill, with more than 3,000 years of history! It also has a lot of winemaking tradition, so don't leave without trying a wine. Also, the road to get is a pass!

17. Go to eat at an agriturismo, a kind of rural restaurant where all products are organic and from the area. Of course, take the opportunity to eat a Tuscan dish, for example these. We went to one near Volterra: the Agristurismo Santa Vittoria, highly recommended (and with pool!).

18. We were not yet (shame! Shame!), But everyone has spoken to us wonders of Lucca. The same goes for Livorno (which also has a beach, oe oe, oeee).

19. Looking for ideas for an original trip? Walk part of the Via Francigena (leaves from Canterbury, England, and arrives until Rome). Its stretch through Tuscany is one of the most spectacular: it passes through fields and medieval stone villages.

20. Did you know that one of the most beautiful islands in all of Italy is in Tuscany? We talk about the Elba Island, with turquoise waters and not too far from the coast. To arrive it takes 1.30h and you have to take a ferry from Piombino Marittima.

Pitigliano, one of our favorite villages in Tuscany

20 + 1. And here is cheating, but we do not resist: make a excursion to Cinque Terre. Vaaale, it's not in Tuscany, it's one step away! If you dare, this tour lasts about 12h and costs € 90 (includes transportation from Florence and guided tour of the 5 villages with tours on foot, by train and by boat). Obviously you can also do it for free: you will have to go to La Spezia and from there move by train to the villages.

Then we leave you the articles with our route by car through Tuscany:

→ Stage 1: from Florence to San Gimignano (Chianti)

→ Stage 2: from San Gimignano to Montepulciano (Siena and Val D'Orcia)

→ Stage 3: from Montepulciano to Sorano (Val d'Orcia and Maremma)

→ Stage 4: from Sorano to Pisa (Maremma and Grosseto)

Sure we left many things what to see and do in Tuscany, but we believe that these 20 points are enough for a first trip XD
