If there is one thing that will leave you speechless in Bangkok, apart from the food, it is the amount of temples (or Wats) that are scattered throughout the city. If you have little time you will have to choose which ones to visit, and if you do not know where to start ... ta-dan: we have prepared this list with the best temples in Bangkok with description, schedules, prices and location ... so that later you say we don't love you!

If you want more information for your trip, visit our THAILAND TRAVEL GUIDE

An advice! Eye to your wardrobe: they will not let you in if you go with a skirt / shorts and with bare shoulders. It is always advisable to take a sarong.

And having said that we will take a virtual walk through the most beautiful temples of the capital of Thailand:

It is one of our favorite temples in the world (after Bernabeu, a joke, I'm more of Friuli Stadium) since its location on the banks of the Chao Praya River and its incredible 80 meter stupa decorated with porcelain and crystals have enamored us . Get ready to climb the huge steps to enjoy some good views from the city (although for us the best view is from the other side of the river, where you can see the “temple of dawn”In all its beauty, especially at the first / last hour of the day).

  • Cost: 100 baht
  • Hours: 8.00-17.30
  • How to get there: It is in front of the Grand Palace, to cross the river you have to take a boat that leaves us in front of the temple.
  • Essential level: 10/10

It is another of the icons of Bangkok, not so much for its enclosure nor for its architecture, but for what it guards inside: a huge statue of a reclining Buddha 43 meters long. And if after the visit your feet are tired… good news: at Wat Po there is a famous “massage school”.

  • Cost: 200 baht
  • Hours: 8.30-18.30
  • How to get there: it is located behind the Grand Palace
  • Essential level: 10/10

The Grand Royal Palace is probably the most visited monument in all of Thailand: from early in the morning until closing it is full of devout Thais and farangs curious (that's what we call foreigners). And it is logical that it be so: the incredible palace is formed by different temples, halls and palaces that form a “city within the city” of a truly spectacular architecture. The jewel in the crown (never better said) is the Emerald Temple Wat Phra Kaew where the sacred figure of a small emerald Buddha is guarded.

  • Cost: 500 baht
  • Hours: 8.30-15.30
  • How to get there: From the Khao San Road area, the most comfortable is to take a tuk tuk (you have to haggle a lot because they try to rip you off) or a taxi (make sure they activate the meter). It can be reached on foot (about 30-40 minutes) or by boat (Tha Chang stop).
  • Essential level: 10/10

This wat is very curious since it is in a artificial hill of about 60 meters. It is crowned by a stupa which is reached after having climbed the 318 steps of the "golden" hill. Along the way you can enjoy statues, small gardens and bells that attract good luck (or so they say!). The 360 degree views of the city from above deserve the effort!

  • Cost: 50 baht
  • Hours: 8.00-17.00
  • How to get there: 20-25 minutes walk from Koh San or if you prefer you can go by tuk tuk
  • Essential level: 8/10

If you are looking for a temple outside the tourist route, where you can admire the delicate and beautiful buddhist rituals, this is perfect: Wat Suthat is one of the oldest and most charming in Bangkok. It is a curious place, since right in front of it is the giant swing of Bangkok.

  • Cost: 100 baht
  • Hours: 8.30-21.00
  • How to get there: It is in front of the giant swing on Bamrung Muang Rd. You can walk (from Khao San Road it is not far away or catch Bus 508)
  • Essential level: 6/10

If you think that the reclining Buddha of Wat Pho is the only giant in Bangkok, you are wrong: Wat Intharawihan is the seat of a piece of Giant buddha! Find out before your visit if they finished restoring it (we understand that in October 2018 it was covered).

  • Cost: 40 baht
  • Hours: 8.30-20.00
  • How to get there: it's at 114 Wisut Kasat Road, we went by tuk-tuk
  • Essential level: 5/10

This beautiful temple is built in italian marble (the famous white Carrara marble) but this is not its only attraction: in its inner courtyard you can admire 52 Buddha statues really pretty.

  • Cost: 50 baht
  • Hours: 8.00-17.30
  • How to get there: it is within walking distance of Dusit Park. Bus No. 72 and 503
  • Essential level: 7/10
Find cheap accommodationin Bangkokhere. We usually stay at the Rambuttri Village Plaza or the Nouvo City Hotel (if there are offers, of course)

Another temple little traveled by tourists (and that is a short walk from Khao San Road!). Its strong point is the "Loha Prasat": a construction of about 30 meters crowned by 37 needles which represent the virtues that guide the spirit to conquer "Nirvana."

  • Cost: 20 baht
  • Hours: 8.00-17.30
  • How to get there: it is on the corner of Ratchadamnoen Klang with Maha Chai Road
  • Essential level: 6/10

Seen from outside the temple does not seem different from many others in the area ... but do not be fooled by appearances! Inside you can enjoy a buddha statue very special since it is made by 5.5 tons of solid gold! The best thing is its history: it looked like a normal and ordinary Buddha statue since it was completely covered with stucco (it was a normal technique in the past, to protect Thai “treasures” from foreign invasions). But in 1955 things changed: during a transfer the statue accidentally broke, or rather, the stucco layer was broken, revealing its true nature!

  • Cost: 40 baht
  • Hours: 9.00-17.00
  • How to get there: Be in the Chinatown neighborhood at the corner of Th Yaowarat and Th Charoen Krung, quite close to Hualamphong Station
  • Essential level: 6/10

So far those who are for us the best temples in Bangkok... do you know any more?
