The Maltese Islands (not only one but an archipelago of three inhabited islands plus other tiny ones), are a destination that is increasingly important ... and rightly so: they are beautiful! In "the land of honey", which is how Malta was known in the past, there are many things to see and do despite its small size. It has an ancient culture and its ports went from Phoenicians to Greeks or Romans, even part of the Crown of Aragon!

This rich culture can be explored in a few days. Here we detail 20 things to see and do in Malta

1-Visit the Hal Saflieni Hypogeum. It is a World Heritage Site and is considered the only known prehistoric underground temple. It is arranged on several floors and its purpose was religious (temples and shrines) and also as a necropolis when welcoming graves. It is located on the island of Malta.

2-The Church of Santa María de la Asunción is famous for its huge dome with a diameter of 37 meters. It is considered the fourth largest in the world! It is located in the city of Mosta. The vision of her from below must be incredible.

3-The palace of the Grand Master in Valletta, built in 1571, currently houses the Parliament. It has several rooms with different exhibitions, murals and paintings, the most famous being that of the knights with their spears.

4-Did you know that there are megalithic temples in Malta? They are ruins of ancient temples, wrapped in a halo of mystery. It is the oldest ruins of these characteristics in the world! There are several scattered throughout the archipelago but the most important are in the islands of Malta and Gozo.

5-The cathedral of San Juan in Valletta is well worth it. Here you can see one of Caravaggio's masterpieces, The Decapitation of Saint John the Baptist.

6-Take a tour of the cities of Mdina and Rabat: they have an ancient history and places full of interest.

7-With more than 250 km of beaches and in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea it would be unforgivable not to take advantage of them! A boat trip, snorkeling hours, diving or just having a good dip are a good plan.

8-And a good plan is also to visit the fishing village of Marsaxlokk and contemplate the daily life of the locals. It is undoubtedly one of the most famous postcards of Malta (and of the things we most want to do).

9-Stroll through the Barraka Gardens in Valletta at sunset and contemplate from there the Grand Harbor.

10-Visit the town of Popeye, yes it is a frikada but that's how we are haha There are excursions for € 22

11-Attend a play at the Manoel Theater, in La Valletta, it is one of the oldest active theaters in all of Europe.

12-Go up and down the promenades of Sliema and St. Julian, the best time to enjoy them is undoubtedly at sunset.

13-Take a relaxing bath in the turquoise waters of the Blue Lagoon, in Comino. What waters, gentlemen 🙂

14-Visit the cave of Calipso, in Gozo. They say that this is the cave where Ulysses was held for 7 years by the nymph Calypso, in the accounts of the Odyssey. If the legend leaves you indifferent, perhaps the views of Ramla Bay are more enjoyable.

15-Enjoy a beautiful sunset from a small boat in the Blue Window, in Gozo. You can take super interesting day tours, like this one or this one.

16-Take the best photo of the Valletta from Silema. The views from there are the best 🙂

17-Eat at least one pastizzi, some cupcakes stuffed with ricotta and peas. They are addictive, I notice!

18-If you are looking for a party this name points well: Paceville, an area full of places where you can live one night (wait for it) le-gen-dary!

19-In Malra, as you can imagine, there is no lack of beaches. If what you want is to turn to the sun (put on cream, eh) and relax in front of the waters of the Mediterranean, we tell you which are the best beaches in Malta (which, we also warn you, are not the most beautiful beaches in Europe, uh ... the truth is that there are many better ones :-p):

  • Golden bay
  • Ghajn Tuffieha Bay
  • Ghadira bay
  • Paradise bay
  • Gnejna Bay

20-If you like diving, Malta has several places that you will love ... you will be entertained between wrecks and fish XD

That said: Malta is one of the most beautiful islands in the Mediterranean and considering how close it is, consider a visit! You have been? You have more tips from things to see and do in Malta?
