EXPLORING THE STRENGTH OF CHITTORGARH

If there is something that characterizes the Rajastan (apart from the turbans and mustaches) they are the palaces and forts of their cities. We saw Jodhpur's, Jaipur's, Jaisalmer's, Bundi's but everyone was telling us ... you'll see Chittorgarh's: it's the most beautiful of all!

And so we rode a train to this little town lost by Rajastan, accompanied by a fog that seemed to be in London (and we who believed that India was hot and sunny!). Luckily, little by little, the fog went away and we were able to visit the famous fort that nothing else, but it is great.

Here the dimensions do count and it is almost 6 km long and is built on a hill 180m high. Inside you can see towers, temples, palaces, monkeys that eat flowers and much more 😉 So with Iuri, the Catalan boy we met taking chai in the Krishna of Bundi, we hired a tuk tuk that took us to explore every corner of the fort (although the driver tried to pass the occasional palace and temple).

Going up the slope that leads to the wall we pass through the Ram Pol after crossing another 6 doors and arrive at the Ticket office. Ticket in hand we begin the routine by the set that at times reminded us of Angkor.

What we liked the most was the “Jaya Stambha” tower of 37 meters and full of marble carvings and details. The temples are also very beautiful and the palaces, like the Rana Kumbha, although the most photogenic, with the tower, is perhaps the Gaumukh Reservoir, the water dam that houses a sacred altar with a “waterfall” (go, it was a trickle of water) where the faithful pray and leave offerings. From there there were very beautiful views of the city. No doubt the fort is worth visiting!

Now, we are on our way to our last stage in Rajastan ... Where will we go?

USEFUL INFO

How to get?By train from Bundi (there is no direct bus, if you want to go by bus it is through Kota). The Bundi train station is to be taken by culio, it cost us 70 INR the tuctuc. There are two trains in the morning, one at 07.30 and another at 09.00 (although we catch the one from 07.30 to 9, due to delays ...). In second sitting it costs INR 25, we go with that ticket to the sleeper, and the reviewer did not pass. The station will be 2 km from the center. A tuctuc took us for 30 INR to the bus station area.

Where to sleep? We stayed at the Amber Palace, for 350 INR double, with bathroom and TV. It's quite shabby but for one night ... It's in the bus station area (before the bridge), here are some more hotels. Towards the center there is also an area with several.

Visit to the fort.We shared a tuctuc with Iuri to make the visit. It cost us 250 INR to go up, visit and go down to the hotel. In total 3 hours. The entrance to the fort costs 100 INR.
