Throughout these years we have received many messages and e-mails from readers who wanted to enjoy a greattrip to Europe without it being necessary to go to the black organ market and sell a kidney. For them and for future travelers we bring good news: touring Europe is not as expensive as it may seem, especially if you know some tricks to save money. You don't know what they are? Nothing happens, in this article We are going to give you a few tips to travel to Europe (and not screw it up). Are you ready? Let us begin:

We always control flight offers in Skyscanner, it is the best search engine where you can find bargains ... of course you have to have some luck and, especially, flexibility 🙂

God bless Ryanair, so clear. This low cost airline, although it has a few detractors (it is not the most comfortable, nor the one that will give you the best treatment), it is a relief for budget travelers. Ok, you can't find rates at 1 cent from a few years ago but you can often fly from one city to another for € 10-30. And it has routes through virtually all of Europe!

If with Ryanair you are not lucky, do not despair: there are other companies such as Easyjet or Vueling…. although there are many more! I said, get in Skyscanner and control 🙂

Considering that distances can be covered in bus trips, a good alternative to low cost flights isFlixbus, thanks to which you can find real bargains (tickets from € 1!). Check out their website.

If trains are your thing, do not rule out the option of traveling with Interrail. A pass that allows you to travel for a certain number of days throughout Europe (depending on the pass you choose). It is not the cheapest option there is but traveling by train is very romantic and adventurous, don't you think? Here we tell you more about it.

If you are one of those who loveroad trips or you are traveling in a group we advise you to contemplate the option of renting a car, there is no other means of transport that offers you more freedom and flexibility. Where to look for it? We do it with two search engines: Auto Europe, and Rentalcars. You can find very good offers. Touring the Amalfi Coast or Tuscany, getting lost in Andalusia or southern France, exploring Ireland and the villages of England by car is an adventure you will never forget!

This is simply our advice, we do not mean that we have the absolute truth. There are travelers who can reach Europe only once in a lifetime, in this case we understand that they want to see as many places as possible. It is completely understandable. But if you can focus on a few destinations to enjoy them more and know them better. Being 15 days in Europe and visiting 15 cities can be frustrating (apart from expensive and tired).

Oops, what a complicated question! To taste the colors, right? In addition, it is very difficult to find ugly places in the old continent. We are very fans of southern Europe: Italy, Greece, Spain, Portugal are some of our favorites. We are passionate about the Balkan area: Bosnia and Montenegro, for example, are wonderful, original and cheap destinations, and Croatia is another very complete country! Come on, there is life beyond Venice, Paris, London and Amsterdam 🙂

There are plenty of options to stay in Europe: from the hotels of a lifetime, to cheap hostels perfect for backpackers.

We always use the booking website, it works best for us and where we find the best deals. There are also websites where you can find apartments or private rooms in private homes, such as Airbnb (here you have a € 25 discount for your next reservation) or Wimdu.

And if you travel on a low cost budget you can opt for couchsurfing, a community of users that offer free accommodation. What do they ask in return? Nothing: the idea is to exchange experiences, meet other cultures and make the world a better place. Do not do it just to save money: the couchsurfing philosophy should not be reduced by wanting to save a few euros.

In Europe you eat luxury and each country has a well-defined gastronomic culture. So try to always try the typical dishes of the destination What visits? A trick to save money is to have a good breakfast (if the accommodation has great breakfast included, if you do not have it you can buy bread, jam or whatever you want in the supermarket and prepare it yourself), eat out in one of the many restaurants that offer a menu of the day (first, second, dessert and drink for € 7-10) and have a quick dinner (a sandwich, a soup, a piece of pizza ...).

To eat well and cheap follow the locals and, normally, the restaurants with menus with photos next to very famous tourist attractions are not the best in the city. Another option is the “All you can eat” restaurants, some buffet where you pay an amount and you can put on your boots until it explodes. They usually cost about € 10-15. Although, of course, the quality is not the best. And of course, our loved ones cannot be missing kebabs, pizzas, hamburgers and co! Come on, if you want to eat cheaply in Europe, you have many options.

If you want to save to the fullest, the best option is to buy bread, sausage and cheese in a supermarket and improvise a picnic! You can also throw street food (pizza, kebab, snacks), it represents a cheap and tasty option. And of course the bakeries!

We love to eat, so we always write post recommending the restaurants that we liked most from the cities we visited. You can read all those articles here.

Or rather, get a bottle of water in a supermarket and use it throughout the trip. How? Filling it of water from public sources. Or better yet, buy a stainless steel bottle and travel with it, so you will also be a responsible tourist with the environment.

Prevention is better than cure and travel with medical insurance is something you should always do. Nothing ever happens until it happens ... and when it happens you won't want to be alone! We always travel covered with Iati Insurance, this year we had to use it in Australia and it helped us a lot. Come on, it is highly recommended. Also here we leave you a 5% discount.

If you are Spanish (or community) you can request the European sanitary card (TSE) valid for two years and with which you will be entitled to health care in the EU member countries. More info here.

Unless you don't mind being surrounded by people, many people, and pay everything more expensive. Traveling in Europe in July and August is not the best option, you can get to make an infernal calorazo and also you will not be able to fully enjoy the most emblematic cities, as they will be full of tourists. Better plan the trip for spring or fall.

And if you are very cold, avoid traveling between November and February. In Europe it can be cold, very cold! Although you can fight it with the onion technique, you know, based on layers and layers of clothes.

Obviously the weather varies a lot from north to south but in general we are very fans of the intermediate seasons: spring and autumn! They are not times full of tourists and the temperature is usually good, everywhere.

Luckily for travelers' pockets there are many things to see and do for free in Europe, even in big cities! There are always options to join celebrities free tour They show you the main points of the city in a couple of hours. Of course, leave a tip that the guides deserve!

If you want to see all the most interesting monuments and museums too, you may want to buy a tourist card. They usually cost about € 40-100 (depending on destination / days) and include all tickets (sometimes also public transport). Here you have an example but there are practically in all cities.

Do we recommend it? It depends on what you want to see and do. As we have said there are many options to enjoy the city for free or almost but of course, if you are a fan of art sometimes there is no choice but to go to the cashier and in some cases those cards are very worth it since, often They also include free tours and transportation. Check first of all the price of the museums you want to visit and compare it with that of the city's tourist card: only then will you know which is the most profitable option.

There are some attractions such as the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Alhambra in Granada or the Vatican Museums in Rome that are very much requested. Do not fall asleep on the laurels because the tickets may be sold out for the day that interests you. If you know in advance when you are going to visit them online booking, not to take a last minute surprise.

Especially in places like Paris, Venice or London. Waking up early will allow you to have the city just for you and stroll through the deserted streets is a luxury ... alarm clock!

And not only to lower the pizzas that you are going to zamparte, but because walk through the city It will allow you to discover its most beautiful corners (and secrets). So take your most comfortable shoes and get ready to crush a few km a day ... this is a unique trip and you have to make the most of it! And remember that you are traveling through Europe, not in the Milan fashion week parade: the important thing is to be comfortable, not handsome.

Upside down, sometimes getting lost is good, lets you discover hidden places that do not appear in any guide and that will be special because you are the only tourist to enjoy them. Also before or after you will find the right path ... all the streets lead to Rome, right?

If you have no time problems, have flexibility and want to travel slowly and cheaply, a good option is to sign up for some housesitting pages. Basically it's about take care of houses and pets when their owners are out. You can see more about housesitting here.

Tell merci a Frenchman will not make you an expert but it is a sign of interest in culture French that will thank you, the same in Italy, Holland and in the Conchinchina!

The capitals of Europe are the sea of beautiful, it is true, but a country is not only its most famous city ... the villages have a lot personality. Here are some of our favorites:

  • Bled, in Slovenia
  • Hallstatt in Austria
  • Mostar in Bosnia
  • Polignano a Mare, in Italy
  • Santillana de Mar, in Spain
  • Carvoeiro, in Portugal
  • Colmar, in France
  • Bibury in England
  • Reine, in Norway

But there are many more: give the little towns in Europe a chance and you won't regret it.

Ok, we don't have the Grand Canyon, the Atacama Desert or the Okavango Delta but if you think that Europe is just a lot of ancient cities you are getting confused. There are hundreds of options to enjoy the most natural side of the old continent. Some of the best destinations are:

  • The Alps (central Europe)
  • Norway Fjords
  • Plitvice lakes in Croatia
  • Iceland, with its geysers, lakes, mountains and landscapes that look like another world
  • Cliffs of Moher, in Ireland
  • The coasts of the Algarve
  • The islets of Greece

And so many more!

The parties in Europe they take themselves very seriously and if you are lucky enough to be able to live some of them in first person, then you will take home a memory for life. Good examples are the Carnival of Venice, the Oktober Fest in Munich or the Queen's Day in Holland. But there are countless parties scattered throughout Europe, find out and if the dates fit, do not think about it!

No matter if you have finished university a few years ago XD we tell you from experience: sometimes it continues to work and they are achieved free tickets or with great discounts (Of course our good genetics and those beautiful pretty faces help, just kidding what we have is nose).
